Bob Fraser -  Conservative County Councillor
for the Dove Division

Shadow Cabinet Support Member for Schools
Chair of Governors : de Ferrers Specialist Technology College
Chair : the Beyne Foundation Governors
Vice-Chair : Children and Young People Scrutiny Performance Panel
School Organisation Advisory Committee
Schools Forum
Local Admissions Forum

As a county councillor I have a dual role to fulfil.

One is to be a member with County-wide responsibility for the role chosen by my Group. As I am a member of the Conservative group and Labour are currently in power (32 seats opposed to 28), this means that this is an opposition role. I have been chosen to serve as Shadow Cabinet Support member for Schools. In addition I am a member of the Local Admissions Forum, the School Organisation Committee and the Schools Forum.

In my Shadow role I have been involved in school reviews (including the provision of special schools) and monitoring of OFSTED inspection results, residential home inspections and reviews, library and museum provision and foster caring. Our party has been responsible for raising foster care provision as an important issue and the scrutiny panel has now formed a working group to address this issue. Of course members will doubtless be aware of my special interest in Education with my role as Chairman of the Governing Body of de Ferrers Specialist Technology College and as Chairman of the Beyne Foundation.

My primary role is, of course, to represent the Dove Division and those people who elected me. This includes the Parishes of Anslow, Draycott, Hanbury, Outwoods, Marchington, Rolleston and Tutbury. I’m very pleased to be able to attend many parish council meetings at most of these parishes and to take a greater or lesser part in the discussions at these meetings.

I have a Local Member’s Initiative Scheme available whereby grants can be awarded to local groups, etc. In my first three years I made grants to:-

  • Anslow Memorial Gardens
  • Anslow Village Hall
  • Burton Tennis & Squash Club
  • de Ferrers STC cultural visit
